Circulation - Text Messaging Set Up Indicator for Holds

Tags:

As an e-mail address is already indicated at the patron account masthead, I would like to suggest that a simple indicator be placed in the same location indicating a patron has decided to be notified of waiting holds and due date reminders via text messaging. It would help reassure staff that patrons are receiving their notices and patrons that there getting notices before items are late or items are returned to the owning libraries.

Metaholds: Improve workflow

Few patrons (or staff) ever click on the Advanced Hold Options link - if the metahold options were displayed differently, perhaps on the main hold screen rather than on a separate Advanced screen, I think they would be used more.

Select multiple items from search results to place holds

23

Our patrons would like to be able to select multiple items from a search results page and place holds on all of them rather than having to go through several steps for each one.

(Also - place them on a list as in http://masslnc.org/node/3132, and also print the selected ones or export them as a CSV)

Improve Holds Stalling

21

Because of Opportunistic Holds capture, an available item may be on the shelf at the pickup location but another library checks in an available copy and the item goes in transit to fill the Hold at the pickup location.  This is because the item at the other library is checked in before the pickup location checks in their copy.

Holds stalling stops other items from filling the Hold for x days giving the pickup location time to check in their copy.

Show only active hold count on item details page

19

A coworker put an item on hold, and the Item Details page said something like "10 holds on 2 items."  Because of this, she thought the item wouldn't come in for awhile, but then it came in the next day.  She checked to see why it came in for her so fast, and it turned out that all 10 of the other holds were suspended. Problem linking from patron holds to catalog for items we don't own

4

I encounter this situation regularly, but a recent experience is a good example of this problem.  A patron called to check her position in a hold queue, so I went into her account holds screen.  From there I was able to tell her she was #1 on the list, but she said when she placed the hold there were three copies and wanted to know why her hold hadn't been filled yet. Restrict pickup location for holds on items that should not go in delivery (musical instruments, e-readers, etc.)

7

Many libraries have nontraditional collections which may include unusual circulating items such as musical instruments, e-readers, or power tools. Because it is generally undesirable to have these materials go in the delivery, most libraries have made these items non-holdable. If a library still wishes to have a waiting list for these items, they are forced to improvise a local system (most likely a notebook or spreadsheet) to keep track of such requests. Read more »

Allow a "quick-request" option for power-users

18

I know this is definitely a nice-to-have wishlist type item, but a patron asked for it and it seemed useful.  The patron wanted to be able to select which parts (in his case, of DVD television series) to request right from the search results screen, instead of having to click through multiple pages.
