Planning for MassLNC's Future

Since December, a task force with representatives from each of the MassLNC networks has been meeting to discuss the future direction of the Massachusetts Library Network Cooperative. The cooperative formed around a LSTA-funded grant for the three networks to work together as they implemented separate instances of an open-source library system and to spearhead joint development projects.

MassLNC Year in Review

This past year saw a lot of activity from MassLNC and its participating consortia as they prepared to move to Evergreen. It’s hard to believe how much we’ve accomplished in one brief year. Some of the highlights from 2011 include:

Clarification on Submission Date for MassLNC RFP Responses

The MassLNC Request for Proposals (RFP) for enhancements to the Evergreen Integrated Library System contained an error indicating that proposals were due on September 14. All RFP responses are due at 5 p.m. (EDT) Thursday, September 22. A corrected RFP includes the correct dates.

MassLNC Issues RFP for Evergreen Enhancements

The Massachusetts Library Network Cooperative is inviting vendors and developers to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) to develop enhancements for the Evergreen ILS.

Developers are welcome to submit quotes on one or any number of projects outlined in this RFP.

More MassLNC Development Projects in the Works

MassLNC has several more development projects in the works and will soon be issuing another Request for Proposals (RFP). We have posted some of our project ideas for this next RFP, including usability enhancements to the staff client, record matching & overlay in acquisitions, and building flexible search scopes in the catalog based on multiple copy locations.

Congratulations to Thomas Berezansky

MVLC Assistant Network Administrator, Thomas Berezansky, is the newest core committer to the Evergreen project. Core committers are developers who work within the community and vet patches from other developers and each other.

MVLC Is Now Live On Evergreen

The Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (MVLC) is the first MassLNC consortium to go live on Evergreen. Today (May 31) will be the first day of business on Evergreen for MVLC libraries .

To our knowledge, MVLC is also the first system to use Evergreen 2.1. This release includes several MassLNC-funded enhancements, as well as enhancements contributed by Jason Stephenson and Thomas Berezansky of MVLC.

MVLC is a network of public libraries serving thirty-five communities throughout the Merrimack Valley region of Massachusetts.

MassLNC Issues RFQ for Development of Syrup Course Reserves System

MassLNC has been exploring the use of the Syrup Course Reserves System in conjunction with Evergreen to support the needs of academic libraries in C/W MARS and NOBLE. Based on our inititial evaluation, we are seeking assistance in further developing Syrup to meet the needs of our libraries.

Cataloging in Evergreen 2.1

MassLNC has posted another batch of training screencasts on the Evergreen Video Shorts page that demonstrates cataloging, holds and acquisitions. These screencasts also show the new cataloging enhancements that are expected to be making an appearance in Evergreen 2.1.
