OPAC-01a-2017 - Improved e-mail and printing options

Description:

This project improves e-mail and printing options in the catalog and provides more flexibility for sites to determine which bibliographic, volume, and copy fields should be included in the output.

Related requirement: OPAC-01-2017 adds the ability to e-mail and print from the search results page and lists with no changes to the output. This project should be implemented for whichever e-mail and public catalog options are available at the time of coding.

Priority:

 2 (Very Important)

Mockups:

Several mockups are included with the project requirements. The intent of the mock-up is to convey the idea of how we would like this development to be implemented. The developer is free to deviate from the proposed mockups provided it is done in consultation with MassLNC.

Requirements:

  1. The following requirements should apply when printing or e-mailing from the search results page, from My Lists, or from an individual record.
  2. Authentication requirements:
    1. Printing should be available for unauthenticated and authenticated users.
    2. An Evergreen setting should be available allowing sites to determine if e-mail is allowed for unauthenticated users.
  3. Users should be able to choose from multiple output format options:
    1. Each of these output formats will include a different set of fields in the printout or email.
    2. Evergreen sites should be able to customize the fields that are included in each output format.
      1. Bibliographic, volume, and copy attributes should be available for inclusion in each print/email format.
      2. A flag or setting should be available to inform the system if volume/copy information is included in that particular output format. This flag is necessary because the OPAC display will be slightly different for formats that incorporate volume/copy information.
    3. Two default output formats should be included with the seed data.
      1. The brief format option should include the bibliographic fileds that are currently included in the printout ane e-mail available on the bib record page.
      2. The full format will include bibliographic, volume, and copy information. The stock full format option should include the copy location, call number, call number affixes, monographic parts, copy status, and the name of the library whose copy information is included in the output.
  4. After the user chooses an action to e-mail or print records, an interface should be retrieved that displays a preview of the output. Options should display along the top of the screen allowing users to select the format of the output and a sort order.
    1. The sort options should be the same options that are already available via My Lists -  author, title, publication date
    2. If the user selected a sort method in the cart, the sort select box in the preview should default to that sort method. See related requirement 2(b)(iii) in project OPAC-01-2017
    3. Selecting one of these options should automatically update the preview.

Mock-up of print preview with brief output format selected.

  5. When an option is selected for a format that includes volume/copy information (see related requirement 3(b)(ii)), the catalog should provide an option to select a library.

    1. This option will determine which library's holdings display in the output.
      1. This option may display for purely-bibliographic formats, but should be disabled.
      2. This option should default to the most relevant library as determined by the unapi rank_volumes procedure.
    2. In cases where the library owns multiple copies of the title, the copy information should sort by copy location -> call number (including affixes as part of the sort algorithm) -> availability. More available items (Checked In, Reshelving) should sort ahead of less available items (Checked Out).
    3. An Evergreen site should have the ability to configure the maximum number of copies that display holdings information. If set to 0, the system should display all copies owned by the library.
    4. If a title on the list is not owned by the selected library, No copies available at selected library should display.

Mock-up of print preview with full output format selected.

  6. When e-mailing records, the preview screen should also allow the user to enter the recipient e-mail address and the subject of the e-mail that will be sent.

OPAC-01b-2017 - Support for Citation Styles

Description

This is an add-on project that requires a separate quote from the above projects. This project will provide support for for standard citation styles when printing or e-mailing records.

Priority

3 (Important)

Requirements

  1. In addition to the Brief and Full formats, formats in a standard citation style should also be available when printing or e-mailing records from the catalog.
  2. These formats should be available when printing from a search results list, from My List, or from an individual record.
  3. Preference is for Evergreen to use an external resource, like citationstyles.org, to generate the citations, so that the community does not need to be responsible for keeping up with various formats.
  4. When a citation format is selected, the e-mail and printout should write the bibliographic information in that format.
