Ability to do batch call number updates from copy buckets

7

This was originally part of the idea submitted at http://masslnc.org/node/2961. I'm separating it out so that people have an opportunity to show support for each distinct idea.

Currently, you can only do batch item attribute updates from a copy bucket. This request is to allow users to perform batch call number updates from a copy bucket too.

I may be wrong here but I thought you did batch updates with items in a bucket by moving them to Item Status. When the items are moved there you have the option of batch editing the volumes. Of course the same change has to be made to all call numbers for a batch update. If you have call numbers (not prefixes) that contain a prefix text where you want to remove this "prefix" you can still delete it by clicking in each call number box and removing it. Seems faster than opening each item record individually.

Does this idea mean the ability to edit directly in the bucket?  The advantage of moving to Item Status is that you can there select only some of the items that are in the bucket so there's more flexibility in the edits.

Re: Ability to do batch call number updates from copy buckets

Sometimes I really want to batch edit everthing in a bucket, though, and loading a bucket of any real size into Item Status is a slow and tedious extra step.  Batch edits to things with Edit Item Attributes often go hand in hand with a batch call number change, especially if I'm moving items from different sections of the library with different call numbers (Reference to Adult Nonfiction, for example).

Adding a couple of notes here:

1- Yes, you can edit item attributes from a copy bucket. You don't need to move the copies to item status.

2- This continues to be an issue in the web client.
