Improve the way browse search matches up headings

23

When you do a browse search, the system displays a list of headings with the number of records for each.  The rules that it uses to match up headings for this display are quite strict, and include differences in case, spacing and punctuation.  If the system ignored these small differences when matching, it would result in a more concise and more useful display.

The only difference in these two titles is the space before the colon

The only difference in these two titles is case

And the only difference between these two titles is punctuation (colon vs semicolon)

I almost hate to get into this but so much needs to be fixed in browse search I dare not list it all here.

Re: Improve the way browse search matches up headings

I have long seen a functional browse search as one of the highest priorities for Evergreen development, and I think it is a very worthwhile goal for MassLNC. I would like to see any problems that may be delaying its implementation listed on the development site—isn't that the first step towards getting MassLNC to development to fix these problems?

I didn't mean to knock Elizabeth's idea but it is a good idea and I support it.
