Open Source Project Update

I just wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself. I am Kathy Lussier and have been working since February 1 as the coordinator for the MassLNC Open Source project. I come from the Southeastern Massachusetts Library System where I worked for more than seven years as the Assistant Administrator for Technology. For many years, I have been excited about the potential open-source systems offer for libraries, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help C/W MARS, MVLC and NOBLE libraries move to Evergreen.

Now that the three networks have selected Evergreen, I'm sure there are a lot of questions about next steps. As many of you know, open-source provides us with the opportunity to improve the system through our own development or by hiring somebody to do development work for us. We must now determine what our needs are and whether those needs are met either by the current system or by development projects already in the works.

Over the next couple of months, I will be meeting with groups of library staff to determine ideal processes for the new system. At the same time, the network staffs and I will be working with the system to gain a thorough understanding of all of Evergreen's capabilities. We will then determine which of the processes identified by staff are not supported in the current system and create a development list based on that analysis. We will continue to involve library staff in the process as we prioritize this list of development needs.

I look forward to meeting many of you as we begin work on this exciting project. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
