We should have the ability to erase old fines and their item information.

2

When fines were paid in Millenium, they disappeared from the patron's record.

Because of the difference in the way EG deals with payments, for whatever reason, some old paid fines are being displayed, confusing patrons keeping track at home. EG too easily allows payment of the wrong fine/bill, which is further cluttering up both what the patron sees and what Circulation staff sees when they come in.  Read more »

Display Call Number (Shelf Browse) as list of returns

1

In Advanced Search > Numeric Search > Call Number (shelf browse), display the results as a list (as in regular browse search) instead of as a grid.

Enable the children's catalog to be able to generate emails and phone notifications

0

It's time consuming to have to put these items aside and look up phone numbers, and it's confusing for patrons to get emails on some material but not others.

Thank you

Disable the email request option when patrons forget their password

14

This doesn't work-patrons who have sent an email to request a new password never get a response.

An even better idea would be to make it functional!

Reducing "Alternate Author" field for movies and other A/V materials, also Originally Broadcast Date not front and center as it should be.

8

This field holds far too much information that we absolutely do not need cluttering up our search results.
If EG could determine one or two of the most relevant "alternate authors," that would be great, but if the entire field was eliminated (or invisible) from the search result display, I personally would not miss it.
This one was so ridiculous I just had to share it. The "A.A." field display is so long one must scroll down another screen's worth of space to see it all. (TCN# 3485288, if my link fails.) Read more »

Option to email circulation receipts beyond checkout receipts

46

Whenever a staff user has the option to print a receipt, an email to patron option should appear also. This would allow staff to choose print vs. email based on the patron's preference at the time a checkout or any other type of circulation receipt is generated.

Update 11/22/2016: E-mail checkout receipts are available in 2.11, but additional work is required if we want to e-mail other circulation receipts.

Make Browse feature searchable by material type

11

In the browse search as just introduced in CW/MARS, there is no way to tell if items searched by Title or Author are physical items or electronic materials.  A way to limit the search in this function would be helpful.

Add "New Search" button to all screens during search (supplement or remove "Continue" option)

10

Have "New Search" button available on every screen during a catalog search should user want to start over.  The "continue" option that appears after a hold is placed does not facilitate a new search (just brings user back to previous item).

Have LC call numbers in item records appear as they would on a spine label

3

To help patrons find items in LCC libraries, the call numbers should be displayed in the OPAC with Cutters "stacked" as they would appear on an item's spine label.

It's confusing for patrons to see the call number presented in a linear way that doesn't look like what they see on the shelf.

Add publisher field to advanced search option

0

A number of our libraries have asked for the ability to create a publisher index that is a search option in Advanced Search.  The field would be useful when searching for media (CDs and DVDs) when the UPC code doesn’t turn up search results.

The publisher information that in included in the keyword search doesn't seem to include the 264 field subfield ‘b’ for publisher information in the records cataloged in RDA.

My Lists: Add multiple items from one search screen simultaneously

"I was creating a list from the PAC the other day. What a pain! I would love to be able to check the items on a single PAC page that I want and THEN load them to a list. Any chance?"

Problem linking from patron holds to catalog for items we don't own

5

I encounter this situation regularly, but a recent experience is a good example of this problem.  A patron called to check her position in a hold queue, so I went into her account holds screen.  From there I was able to tell her she was #1 on the list, but she said when she placed the hold there were three copies and wanted to know why her hold hadn't been filled yet. Incorporate frequency of unstemmed search terms into relevance ranking

10

Search results that contain exact matches for the search terms should be ranked higher than those that contain aproximate matches. This would mean that while "Financial fitness for life" and "Loan financing guide for small business owners" should both be considered matches for "financing", the latter should be considered the better match because the word "financing" appears as entered.

(By the way, none of the quotation marks above are part of a search query—they are only there to distinguish the boundaries of the search terms and titles discussed.)

Notification of Online Payments for Billed Items

7

If a patron pays for a billed item in person at a library, the staff can record the item that was paid for and send a reciept to cataloging to have the item reordered. If a patron instead pays for the lost/billed item through their account online, no notifications are sent to inform library staff that the item is permanently out of circulation and not going to be returned. If these paid items could be documented in a list and a report sent to library staff so we can know which items to reorder that would be helpful.

"extra" information on records should be incorporated into main display

5

In all three MassLNC catalogs there is a section of "extra" information (in the html it can be found in a div with id="rdetail_extras_div"). Depending upon the record, this section may or may not have useful content, but either way, its content is hidden by default. Clicking on a heading within it will display the "content", although this content may be empty, or may be no more than a link (so that the patron must click yet again to reach the content)..

This is a terrible user experience for a number of reasons: Read more »

Restrict pickup location for holds on items that should not go in delivery (musical instruments, e-readers, etc.)

7

Many libraries have nontraditional collections which may include unusual circulating items such as musical instruments, e-readers, or power tools. Because it is generally undesirable to have these materials go in the delivery, most libraries have made these items non-holdable. If a library still wishes to have a waiting list for these items, they are forced to improvise a local system (most likely a notebook or spreadsheet) to keep track of such requests. Read more »

Spine Label Information

4

On the Spine Lables page (easily accessed by right clicking on an item [in Item Status or Holidings Maintenance] and choosing "Print Spine Labels"), there are many choices for customizing the information included on the Pocket Label, but no control for customizing the information on the Spine Label.

It would be helpful to have check-boxes in the Spine Label section to include/disclude (at least) the following information:

CN Prefix
CN Suffix
Part
