Damaged Items - Workflow Improvements

When a returned item is damaged, staff would like an easy option to charge the patron for the damage at time of check in. Staff would mark the item damaged and be given the three options of no charge, charge a variable amount in free text, or full item price and processing fee. Taking this action would also mark the item as damaged, making it invisible in OPAC searches and not holdable. When staff chooses the option to charge full price, if a price is entered in item attributes, either a default price or a price assigned at cataloging, the price is shown to staff but cannot be edited. Holds and suggested items

After a hold is placed, we'd love to be able to provide other suggestions on the hold confirmation page (sort of like what amazon does after an order is placed).

This may not be feasible without a subscription to a third party added content service such as NoveList, but since NoveList provides recommendations from the item details page, perhaps we could also leverage that from the hold confirmation page.

Hold routing in case of closure

If a library is going to be closed (emergency closure, scheduled renovations, etc.) – we'd like a way to either route all holds that are to be picked up at that branch to a different branch, or an option to suspend holds that are to be picked up at that branch until after closure is finished.

Related – if a library shuts down, be able to control where new pickup location will be.

Author Pages in Catalog

New OPAC feature idea - generate author pages that display all the titles associated with that author that are in the collection, cross-link to alternate names (from see-alsos in authority records?), and maybe pull in some bio info via linked data from a third party?

Allow libraries to update their own hours

Currently, we cannot allow libraries to update their own hours (or contact info / addresses) because they are part of the org unit settings and we do not give the libraries permissions at that level. It would be helpful if this information were split out so that libraries could do this themselves, just as they can change their own library settings and their own closed dates.

New Receipt for Pre-Cats

When pre-cats are checked in, they give a pop-up message indicating the item should be fixed - it would be even better for our workflow if it would print out a routing slip / receipt so that it could be slipped in the book and sent to cataloging for cleanup.

Improve error info for Deleted items

If a barcode is scanned for an item that has been deleted, it would be helpful if the error message indicated the date that the item was deleted and the ID of the staff person who deleted it.

Holds on missing items

If an item has a hold on it and gets marked Missing, it should immediately retarget the hold.

If it is the last copy so cannot retarget the hold, it should cancel the hold and notify the patron.

Survey Improvements

When setting up the survey, if a date is added incorrectly, it doesn’t give error or save. A date picker would be nice.

Survey can’t start current day or in past (but doesn’t give error) – must hit reload to refresh the page and show the ability to add a question to a newly created survey.

Add the optional ability to schedule an automated download of the offline patron list in the background while logged into the client. This would save staff from having to remember to do it manually on a regular basis.

More Flexible/Customizable Format Filters

Currently in Evergreen, format filters sort alphabetically.  

Our libraries would like a way to group filters by type, perhaps with indented sub categories.  To have all the books falls together we have to name them all starting with  "Book..."  For example Book (all), Book (Braille), Book (large print), Book (regular print)..  For ebooks to fall with the books they have to be named "Book (electronic)" .  Some libraries may want to group the formats by physical items and electronic items. Pre-Cats: Add another field to store call number

The pre-cat function currently has a field for ISBN, but that's not particularly useful for PINES libraries and our staff are instructed to put the item call number (assuming it exists) into that field.

We'd like to add a Call Number input field there to store it. One problem to watch out for is that the current functionality may be storing "UNCATALOGED" in the call number field.

Patron Self-Registration: Improve pending registration findability

Currently, you have to know which location the patron selected when they filled out the patron self-registration form. If the patron chose the wrong location, there is not an easy way to find the pending application.

We would like to be able to display all pending applications for a system, or all pending applications for the consortium.

It would also be nice to be able to search for a pending application.
