Circulation - Text Messaging Set Up Indicator for Holds

Tags:
13

As an e-mail address is already indicated at the patron account masthead, I would like to suggest that a simple indicator be placed in the same location indicating a patron has decided to be notified of waiting holds and due date reminders via text messaging. It would help reassure staff that patrons are receiving their notices and patrons that there getting notices before items are late or items are returned to the owning libraries.

Circulation - Recognize State Identification Barcodes

1

Why can't we use patron state license and identification barcodes in the ILS to identify someone?

November 4th 2013 In a report to the MBLC The Buyer Focus Group released by Kress & Associates indicated that there was a great desire by Massachusetts residents to have a state wide library card. This library card would allow any legal resident to check out items from any particpating library within Massachusetts. Nothing has been done since to move in this direction. Read more »

Make incorrect spellings & obsolete dates delete-able in Manage Issues interface

9

When adding a new issue in Serials Batch Receive, previously entered incorrect spellings are available in the Call Number field drop-down menu (such as "Galmour" for Glamour). Also incorrectly entered dates and way obsolete dates are still available in the the date drop-down menu in Holdings Maintenance. It is time consuming and frustrating to have to scroll through information you're never going to use every time you add a new magazine.

Inventory Module

18

We have workarounds using reports to do inventory processes, but it would be nice to have a fully fleshed out inventory module (this is one of the areas where many other ILSes have an advantage over Evergreen).

Web Client - improvements for mobile devices

22

One of the benefits of moving to a web client will be making the client more mobile, but opening it on a small screen at this point doesn't resolve nicely because of how much content there is and how it is laid out.

Making the interface work nicely on a small tablet or smart phone is a desirable long-term goal.

Another request is to take advantage of a mobile device's camera to allow the device to scan barcodes into the web client. This woiuld remove the necessity of attaching a third party barcode scanner or typing in the barcode manually.

Allow user to actually cancel Receive/Move Selected operation midway through.

7

If you accidentally pick the wrong issuance to receive, there is no way to stop the process.  The Cancel buttons on the barcode and call number pop-ups don't actually cancel anything, they just force the issuance through with default-generated values.  Then you have to set that issuance back to expected and start over.  This is a tedious process.

Checkbox for Library Specific Messages

15

We have an option on our registration cards that allows Patron A to give permission for other patrons to pick up their holds (without Patron A's card). This can be added via the alert field or by adding an alert via Messages, and the wording is inconsistant depending on who registers the patron. I would love a checkbox on the register patron tab that would just produce this alert - could either be set state-wide for one setting or else be library-specific (set by the circ manager or something) depending on whether libraries ask every patron a specific question.

Items out total

3

When an item is marked "Claims Returned" it still shows up in the Items out total in the patron info portion of the screen. This gets confusing when a patron doesn't have any items actually checked out. Is there a way to remove this from the total?

Show closed dates in date picker

32

The date picker (showed when editing the shelf expire time, due dates, etc.) should show dates on which the library is closed by, for example dimming these dates or showing them in a different form of the typeface (perhaps italics). Mouseover text should also indicate that the library is closed on that date.

This will help avoid errors in which staff mistakenly extend a due date or shelf expiration date onto a holiday.

Create an Address "Invalidate" Button

15

The buttons that allow us quickly mark an email address or phone number as "Invalid" are really useful. A similar button to show that an address was invalid would save a huge amount of time and would help cut down on the number of Alert Messages. I type individual Alerts about updating mailing addresses for patrons at least 3 times a day, and sometimes many more!

Allow patrons to sort their "My List" by owning library

10

I had a request from a patron who uses "My List" often. She would like to be able to sort by owning library so that when she goes to one library she can easily see what is available there at that time. If she goes to a different library the next day she could re-sort to see what is currently at that location.

Integrate Syrup course reserves into Evergreen

2

Integrate course reserves into Evergreen so that the course reserves system is directly retrieving users and copies from the Evergreen database rather than creating its own. Interfaces will also need to be rebuilt in AngularJS. We've been building work-in-progress requirements at http://masslnc.org/node/3181.

Patron record loading

6

Add a staff client interface to allow for batch loading of patron records. A set of requirements at https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=evergreen_for_academics:batch_patron_functions can be used as a starting point.

Although Evergreen sites can currently load patron records in batch using scripts, the addition of a staff client interface will enable individual libraries to load these records whenever they have a new file that's ready to load.

Improvements to batch import of bib records

12

This idea is to implement a queued ingest for the purposes of implementing improvements for batch importing bibliographic records. Currently, staff need to limit the number of records they can import at one time. Importing too large of a batch can cause timeouts or can cause slowdowns for all users because of the high load that occurs when records are being ingested. Read more »

Improved Printing Options in Staff Client

12

An example improvment would be ability to configure label templates to diverse outputs, e.g. sheets of labels or rolls or labels, directly in the staff client, without having to fiddle with forms or converters outside of Evergreen.

Current options are https://www.branchdistrictlibrary.org/professional/labels/

Or a mail merge in Windows.

Show the system and branches' copy location filter on system level search or branch level search on TPAC Advanced Search page

10

It would be ideal if both system and branch level copy location filters could be displayed and used on Advanced Search page on public catalogue, and user could search system's, all branches', or 1 branch's copy location as needed.

There has been development work in this regard already, but I thought I would submit an idea as I do not find an exact match on this idea site. There is a Launchpad ticket.

Better handling of Not Cataloged messages during barcode Upload From File

0

The Item Status screen lets you enter barcodes or upload them from a file. When text that is not an item barcode is encountered a "Not Cataloged" dialogue is diplayed, which is appropriate when entering individual barcodes, but a disaster when uploading barcodes from a file. A file may contain hundreds of lines of text which are not valid item barcodes (even if they once were—the items may have been deleted) and requiring the user to aknowledge a dialogue box for each greatly diminishes the usefulness of this tool. Add Part When Receiving Serial Issuance

13

If units are created when receiving serial issuances, the user should have the option to add a part in addition to a barcode and call number.  If parts are used for patron placed holds, each issuance will need this data.  Staff should not have to input this data separately in the volume editor.

Hemlock Mobile Android App Improvements

6

We do an annual patron satisfaction survey each year, and each year, more patrons ask for an app - the Hemlock app created by Ken Cox is a good start and we hope to roll out a PINES-branded version soon. However, there are a number of additional features that we feel would provide added benefit to patrons: Read more »
