Option to use a commercial SMS API for SMS messages

We would like the option to use a commercial SMS API for sending text messages.  This would bypass all the issues involved with using the SMS to email gateways and requiring customers to know and choose their provider.

Benefits

1.  Users don't need to know their provider.  Because of all the virtual providers that just piggyback off of the majors, this can sometimes be tricky.  Many kids don't know/care about the provider that their parents choose.  It would just be one less thing to deal with.

Support for Inventory Date

This is a scaled-down version of the idea to add an Inventory Module in Evergreen. This idea is to add support for an inventory date to facilitate the process of performing inventory in Evergreen Libraries.

I immediately am moving this idea to the Planned area of the Ideas site since the development committee is already writing requirements for this project.

Holds Quantity

It would be great if we could enter the number of copies that we'd like to put on a hold when placing the hold, instead of repeatedly placing a hold for the same title over and over again (specifically, when ordering books for book clubs/groups under one card).

My Account: Add owning library to items out information

It would be helpful for patrons to see which library owns the copy they have checked out.

Library staff can easily look this up, but patrons can't easily find it (they would need to know the barcode to match it to the right copy).  

If a patron runs out of renewals they may need to follow up with the owning library.  Also some libraries charge fines and some do not so it may help to know which items may accrue fines.

It would be great if we could add the Owning Library field to the My Account - Items Out - Current Items Out screen in My Account.

Hold Activation Date

When placing a hold, it would be great to be able to enter an activation date on the place hold screen at the time that the hold is being placed, rather than having to go into the patron's account, find the hold that needs to be suspended, and then change the activation date.

Follow authors

Give patrons (who are signed in to Evergreen) the ability to "follow" LCNAF and get alerted when their home library (and/or the entire consortium) adds a new work by that author. This will allow them to keep abreast of new titles and place holds on items they know are being released but have not yet been published.

Add a box for Staff Initials when creating a new library card.

Since we no longer keep the paper applications for very long, and a mistake might not be noticed right away, it would be helpful to have the staff initials on any library card they create.  We do have someone check applications against the Evergreen info, but sometimes it's the patron trying to fool us, or the staff miss the mistake.

Column picker improvements

Here are two column picker improvement ideas. (I'm happy to split these into posts if that is more appropriate).

1. The column picker should remain on screen until dismissed. Currently the column picker closes whenever a column is added or removed from the selection. Because adding or removing multiple columns is so common the user should be allowed to open the column picker a single time and add or remove any number of columns. The column picker could then be dismissed by clicking outside of the column picker or by clicked an "x" or other appropriate close button.

Patron registration - parent/guardian field relationship

In additional to the free text parent/guardian field, we've had requests from some libraries to add an additional field with a dropdown list indicating the relationship.

Carry over more fields when cloning patrons

We've had requests to copy additional fields when cloning a patron. In most cases, a parent card is created first and then juvenile cards are cloned from that card, so the parent's ID is used, as well as the email address and phone number.

Items Out Receipt - Option to print number of remaining renewals

Hide irrelevant fields on patron registration form

The Claims Returned and Claims Never Checked Out fields don't make any sense on the new patron registration form, only when editing existing patrons.

Distinguish between alerts and blocks in patron summary bar

In the web client, if you add an alert or a block (from the Messages interface) they both show up in red/bold text under the patron name on the patron summary bar. However, staff need to go to the Messages screen in order to see if one or both of them are blocks.

Perhaps the word "block" could either be placed at the beginning or end of the alerts that are blocks.

Web Client Color Coding

Our front-line staff have requested that different common pages (check in, check out, and item status, specifically) be color-coded to give a visual indicator as to which page they are on. 

In addition, there are certain types of alerts (such as the alert on the top of the page when doing a back-dated checkin) that they feel are too subtle.

Add option to email copy of bill payment receipt

Now that we have the option to email checkout receipts, it would be nice to also be able to email bill payment receipts.

Staff should be flagged in "checkout" when a patron's registration will soon expire.

It is very frustrating for patrons when their registrations expire now that there is much they can do from home.  It would help if patrons expiring in the calendar month/year would have some alert on their records.  For instance, all card holders expiring in October 2017 would have some sort of message/alert on their checkout screens beginning Sept. 30, 2017.  That way staff can stay ahead of the game.

An expired registration should not interfere with patron at home Evergreen use. Messages should be clear.

A patron whose registration has expired should be able to renew library materials and place holds from home.  A message should let the patron know that these transactions went through but before checking out more items, they would need to update their registration.

One override to allow for multiple renewals in one transaction

The current workflow if an override is needed on multiple items being renewed is you have to click an override for every item. We would like to see one override that covers all items in the transaction, same as it does for check outs.

User Buckets - Additional Features
