My List under Staff Login

11

I'd like to see a list creation from capability from the staff login application to Evergreen.  At present, I have to login as a patron to create a list, for instance, for our book display.  It would be better to have that capability while logged into our staff access screens. Read more »

My Library First in Library OPAC List (Global Catalog)

21

We spend a lot of time toggling between Bibliomation global catalog and scrolling down to search in our catalog only. We would like an option of our library on top, followed by Bibliomation, followed by the rest of the list in the drop-down menu.

Search Multiple Vendors in Acquisitions

4

We would like an easy way to search multiple acquisitions vendors at once, get back availability and pricing information, and create an order for the best option.

Improve Holds Stalling

29

Because of Opportunistic Holds capture, an available item may be on the shelf at the pickup location but another library checks in an available copy and the item goes in transit to fill the Hold at the pickup location.  This is because the item at the other library is checked in before the pickup location checks in their copy.

Holds stalling stops other items from filling the Hold for x days giving the pickup location time to check in their copy.

Problem with currently stalling behavior: (Library Setting Soft Stalling Interval) Read more »

Ability to do batch call number updates from copy buckets

11

This was originally part of the idea submitted at http://masslnc.org/node/2961. I'm separating it out so that people have an opportunity to show support for each distinct idea.

Currently, you can only do batch item attribute updates from a copy bucket. This request is to allow users to perform batch call number updates from a copy bucket too.

Offline Circulation - improve error handling

14
Allow check outs to go through for many situations that now result in an exception to be handled after the upload processing.  Allow the user the ability to reload rejected items.  Customize override or configure exceptions.

Allow users to open search results in new tabs

15
I'd like to be able to open item record pages from a search into a new Evergreen tab. Often in a search I have several items from a page of results that I want to compare, or just be able to view them concurrently. As it is, the only way I've found to do this is to run the same search in multiple tabs, which is time-consuming and unwieldy.

"Limit to Available" should work even when search results are from an "expert" search

6

Currently "Limit to Available" fails to eliminate unavailable items when applied to an "expert" search (i.e. that is one that uses marc fields and subfields). This limitation should be removed.

If for some reason this limitation can not be removed, the "Limit to Available" option should at least be hidden when it cannot be used.

In-house use statistics should be visible when viewing item details

27

Evergreen's "Record In-House Use" function keeps statistics on items used within the library. These stats do not show on the item details pages. They can only be retrieved by running a report. It would be useful if in-house use statistics were visible on the item details screen and ideally also as a pickable column.

Give an option to update contact info from the Place Hold page

19

This was suggested to me by circ staff here.

It should be possible to update contact info either directly from the Place Hold page or else give staff the option of opening the patron's account directly from the page.  Staff may not always start from a patron's account when placing a hold and may not catch an out of date phone number/email.  The Place Hold page should also display the current phone number on the account, too.  It's a strange omission.

Ability to backdate renewal dates or option to automatically waive fines

19

At times we need to renew after the request, e.g. messages left over the weekend, and if items have become overdue it takes several more steps to also remove the fine. I am thinking something like "amnesty mode renewals", similar to amnesty mode check-in" would be a big help.

More SMS functionality for notifications

24

Many of our patrons use the existing SMS functionality to receive their hold notifications and call number info via text message. It would be great if the SMS functionality could be enhanced such patrons could receive additional types of notifications by text message. And also that the following types of use cases could be possible: Read more »

Catalog search should find one-word variations of separately entered keywords

29

For instance, a keyword search for...

skinny taste cookbook

...currently doesn't return "The Skinnytaste Cookbook" in the search results (because "skinny taste" currently has no relationship with "skinnytaste").

If we changed the search algorithm to include merged variations of keywords, we'd obviously want to test it thoroughly to avoid unintended consequences, but I think it's worth considering.

Pop-up message for long overdue materials when checking out to a patron.

14

There are times that library staff decide to check out materials to a patron with an item listed as long overdue and the message pops up for each and every item being checked out.  If they are taking 10 items, we have to OK the message 10 times.  Can this be changed to ONE alert message?  Or something else that would be easier to deal with when the patron is taking many items?

Option to Set Default Search View to "Basic"

5

In the staff client, there are currently options in "Workstation Administration" > "Set Search Preferences" to choose a default search library and to set your workstation's default search view to Advanced, Numeric, or MARC Expert.  I would like to see an option to set the workstation's default search view to the "Basic" search.

Prefix and Suffix Field Management

Tags:
11

Evergreen needs an improved interface for adding, deleting and editing the call number prefix or suffix fields.  Currently many script errors display while retrieving the list.  The prefix and suffix often cannot be deleted.  Improvements to deleting a prefix or suffix should include a message indicating the specific prefix or suffix exists in copy records. If staff choose to proceed with the deletion the system would make the field blank in the copy records with that value.

Left and right anchoring fails with parallel titles

8

Parallel titles represent two seperate titles; as such, searches for each title should succeed wherever a search would succeed if the title had been entered alone. Currently parallel titles are indexed as if they are one single title, so left and right anchored searches can fail even when they would succeed on one of the titles entered alone.

For example, consider the title "Le placard [videorecording] = The closet".  We want to find this when we search for titles beginning with "the closet", i.e. title:"^the closet".

When importing from a file in Item Status, give an "ignore all" option for the Not Cataloged pop-up.

12

Sometimes I scan a bunch of item barcodes with a wireless barcode reader where I know or don't care that some of those items won't be in the catalog (like a stack of partially weeded books that I forgot about).  But when I upload the barcodes into Item Status, I have to Alt+O through a bunch of nuisance "Not Cataloged" windows that bring the upload to a halt.

It would be nice if those popups could be suppressed in this circumstance.

OPAC should consider proxmity

33

Evergreen apparently does not currently consider proximity so given everything else equal.  The title "Go Set a Watchman / Harper Lee" should rank higher than a title "Watchman / by Ian Rankin" when using the search terms "watchman lee" because the words Watchman and Lee appear closer in the string.

http://catalog.cwmars.org/eg/opac/results?query=watchman%20lee;qtype=key...

Others may have better examples.
