In the Attic - Ideas No Longer Under Consideration

Automatically Set Home Library with Zip Code Provided

2

When a patron applies for a new library card, or changes addresses for that matter, woudln't it make sense to have the home library automatically be set to match the patrons zipcode and not the library presenting the card?  If not, I'm curious as to the reason why it doesn't ? It justs seems like a confusing aspect of the software. If a patron wants to change the pick up library it is an option the way things stand now.

Option to email a receipt

2

I understand that we may someday be able to offer an emailed Date Due receipt to patrons after they check out, but I would also like to be able to offer patrons an emailed receipt when they pay overdue fines or  after they pay for lost and damaged items.

block accounts with billed books

Old system would prevent patrons from using their account if a book was marked "lost"  even if it was below $10.

In a related issue - couls evergreen be able to prevent a partial payment on a "lost" item.

Circulation - Recognize State Identification Barcodes

1

Why can't we use patron state license and identification barcodes in the ILS to identify someone?

November 4th 2013 In a report to the MBLC The Buyer Focus Group released by Kress & Associates indicated that there was a great desire by Massachusetts residents to have a state wide library card. This library card would allow any legal resident to check out items from any particpating library within Massachusetts. Nothing has been done since to move in this direction. Read more »

Items out total

1

When an item is marked "Claims Returned" it still shows up in the Items out total in the patron info portion of the screen. This gets confusing when a patron doesn't have any items actually checked out. Is there a way to remove this from the total?

Better handling of Not Cataloged messages during barcode Upload From File

0

The Item Status screen lets you enter barcodes or upload them from a file. When text that is not an item barcode is encountered a "Not Cataloged" dialogue is diplayed, which is appropriate when entering individual barcodes, but a disaster when uploading barcodes from a file. A file may contain hundreds of lines of text which are not valid item barcodes (even if they once were—the items may have been deleted) and requiring the user to aknowledge a dialogue box for each greatly diminishes the usefulness of this tool. Damaged Items - Workflow Improvements

2

When a returned item is damaged, staff would like an easy option to charge the patron for the damage at time of check in. Staff would mark the item damaged and be given the three options of no charge, charge a variable amount in free text, or full item price and processing fee. Taking this action would also mark the item as damaged, making it invisible in OPAC searches and not holdable. When staff chooses the option to charge full price, if a price is entered in item attributes, either a default price or a price assigned at cataloging, the price is shown to staff but cannot be edited. Option to copy notifications to Patron Message Center

1

We would like an option to add copies of certain types of notifications to the Patron Message Center at the same time they are emailed out. This would partially assist with the problem of emails getting lost in spam filters, particularly for patrons who use certain email services that are notorious for not allowing our emails through (ahem, AOL).

I would like to see it as an option on the Notifications/Action Triggers screen for each type of notification.

Mark records in search results to add to a list

5

Our libraries would like the ability to select multiple records in search results and add them to a list.

This development will need to determine how this would work with existing Add to List links (i.e. would there be checkboxes instead of links that users could select one or multiple records?)

Ability to add more status codes

Please add the capability to add more status codes to Evergreen such as Display.  We would love to be able to add these codes now and in the future.

Lost Items in Items Out

1

On a patron’s record, when an item ages to “Lost” and a bill is generated, the item title doesn’t appear in the “Items Out” section of the patron’s” record.  It only appears if you click on “Bills”. Read more »

Preferred Name

3

I looked over this site, but I could not find whether or not this has been addressed but I think that we need a preferred name field in Evergreen. This would help us to better address the needs of transgender patrons. I am an Assistant Director in a lower socioeconomic area, and would like to be able to address Ethan's transistion while his ID currently says Sarah. We currently put this information in the notes field, but I feel it does not address the issue properly.

Please consider an easy way to retrieve a list of items returned by patrons within the last 24-48 hours.

0

We've had several circumstances arise where a quick way to find this out would have been helpful, from having a patron leave an important document in a book she returned--and we already checked in--and cannot recall the  book's title or author...to patrons who cannot recall the last episode they watched of a dvd.  YES, we always advise people to turn on their READING HISTORY (but these folks usually have not done that yet) and YES, we may be able to get someone to run a report, but this does not help the patron standing there...not all staff know how to run reports.

Staff notification for approaching account expiration

3

There should be an option to show a dialog when staff open a patron account that will expire soon or has expired. The threshold (one week before? one month before?, etc.) should be configurable.

It should be possible to modify the expiration date of the account (or decline to do so) directly from the dialog without opening the patron edit screen. Read more »

Add "Damaged by Patron" to Actions for Selected Items in Items Out

3

At present if a patron damages an item, we have to mark it "Lost by Patron" in order to generate a bill.  This is misleading and confusing to patrons who may not realize an item was damaged, or may wish to dispute it.

Thanks!

Allow users to sort holdings by any column

1

The user should be able to sort holdings, a-z or z-a, based on the content of any column.

This is particularly motivated by the fact that sometimes it is best to sort by call number, sometimes by part, and sometimes by status, but I see no reason to restrict the ability to certain columns.

We should have the ability to erase old fines and their item information.

2

When fines were paid in Millenium, they disappeared from the patron's record.

Because of the difference in the way EG deals with payments, for whatever reason, some old paid fines are being displayed, confusing patrons keeping track at home. EG too easily allows payment of the wrong fine/bill, which is further cluttering up both what the patron sees and what Circulation staff sees when they come in.  Read more »
